What is Alt Text

Alt text is a short description for people who use screen readers and other accessibility tools, or who have slow internet that cannot always load high quality images or video content. Alt text is used to make content accessible to more people in more contexts.

Using Alt Text

Any image that is important enough to include along with your context can use alt text. Some exceptions are decorative elements like an abstract background illustrations that only serve to create a visual atmosphere that does not translate to how someone using accessibility tools perceives content.

Alt text should be written descriptively and functionally to work best. Avoid any voice or tone to communicate clearly, and to assist in translation as well.
